The First Annual Afrofuturism Celebration at The Hurleyville Performing Arts Centre is a month-long event centered around the images and imaginings of an Afro-centricly bright future. This celebration includes a month-long gallery exhibition at Gallery222 featuring Visual Afrofuturist Tim Fielder’s 30+ year career working the obscure margins of alternative weekly editorial cartoons, black rock music flyers, Afrofuturism, African religious modalities, and mainstream pop-culture.
How to Draw Black Superheroes & Comics

Join Tim Fielder (Infinitum, Matty’s Rocket Book One – DieselFunk Studios) for a master class on drawing comics and characters. This program is open to all ages, but it is especially geared towards young people ages 13 and up.
This class will utilize the sequential art ‘Comics” to create visual stories that focus on the philosophy of Afrofuturism. During these workshops participants will learn the principles of creating sequential art for the purpose of cartoon publication. Afrofuturist and Cartoonist, Tim Fielder will share his approach in this engaging workshop. There will be an opportunity for participants to receive feedback with regard to their own characters and or drawings.
