Tessa Hughes-Freeland
Tessa Hughes-Freeland works in a variety of formats and mediums, and her films have been shown in diverse venues, ranging from internationally prominent museums to seedy bars in gritty neighborhoods. Her work is best described as “confrontational, transgressive, provocative and poetic”. Her films have screened internationally in North America, Europe and Australia and in prominent museums and galleries, including the Museum of Modern Art, the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, the Whitney Museum of American Art,[1] the New Museum of Contemporary Art in New York,[ and the KW Institute of Contemporary Art in Berlin. In 2018 a program of her films was included in the “No–Wave, Transgression” Film Series at MoMA.
In October 2019 she had a solo exhibition at Howl Happening in New York City and in January 2020 was the featured artist for “Body as Playground: Body as Battleground” exhibition in Gothenburg, Sweden. Where she held workshops and participated in panel discussions at the Gothenburg International Film Festival as well as being included in the Rotterdam international Film Festival. Five of her films were recently included in an exhibition touring museums in Asia starting in Seoul, S.Korea.
Hughes-Freeland has been a juror for several festivals, and has programmed extensively, most recently for “Punk Lust: Radical Provocation 1971-85“at The Museum of Sex. She was also President of the Board of directors for the New York Film-makers Co-operative for several years.
Hayely Downs
Hayley is a writer, storyteller, podcast producer and documentary filmmaker. She directs and produces the TMI Project Podcast, a storytelling podcast about the “TMI” parts of ourselves we usually leave out because we’re too ashamed or embarrassed. She produced the documentary film Hidden Battles directed by Victoria Mills about the psychological effects of killing on soldiers. She also produced and broadcast edited Naturally Obsessed: the Making of a Scientist, a documentary about laboratory research by Richard and Carole Rifkind. Naturally Obsessed premiered on WNYC/Thirteen and is distributed by PBS International. Most recently she produced J.L. Sert: A Nomadic Dream, a Spanish/U.S. co-production directed by Pablo Bujosa. Her installations and experimental films: Move, Coleslaw Wrestling and Boar Hog, exploring multi-generational Florida folk culture, have shown at underground film festivals including NY, Chicago and SF, and the Museum of Contemporary Art Miami and Art Basel. Her angst-filled teen journal was included in Mortified: Real Words, Real People, Real Pathetic, published by Simon Spotlight Entertainment.
