WCS SPECIAL BRIEFING ON COVID-19
HOW CAN WE STOP FUTURE PANDEMICS?
April 16 | 1:00 – 2:30 PM EDT (U.S.) | View Recorded Event
The COVID-19 pandemic is a direct result of the wildlife trade and live animal markets. Two-thirds of infectious diseases spread from animals to humans—including SARS, MERS, Ebola, and now COVID-19, which is thought to have originated in a live animal market in Wuhan, China.
The frightening reality? More outbreaks are likely to happen unless we can end the commercial wildlife trade and close wildlife markets permanently. That is WCS’s goal.
Join us to learn about WCS’s plan to help stop future pandemics by ending the commercial trade in wildlife. WCS is uniquely positioned to respond to this global crisis and prevent future outbreaks—building on our unparalleled expertise in wildlife health and wildlife trafficking, the strength and reach of our global policy and field programs, and our longstanding partnerships with governments in sites with high-risk wildlife markets.
Please join us on Thursday, April 16 at 1:00 PM EDT (U.S.) for this special webinar to hear the latest on how WCS is tackling this crisis and join a discussion with our experts:
Christian Walzer, Dr. med. vet., Dipl. ECZM
Executive Director, WCS Wildlife Health Program
Aili Kang, PhD
Executive Director, WCS Asia Program
Joe Walston
Executive Vice President, WCS Global Conservation Programs
We want to hear your ideas and questions, so there will be ample time for Q&A after the presentation.
